Raleigh's Favorite Spot Before the Puck Drops

Gourmet bar food, craft beers, and a crowd that actually knows the game.

About Us

The Local sports bar entrance with patrons arriving.
The Local sports bar entrance with patrons arriving.

Right on Hurricane Alley Way, steps from Lenovo Center, The Local has earned its name the hard way: 2,239 reviews and a 4.2-star rating built one great meal at a time. Walk in after a Canes game and you'll find exactly what you were hoping for, cold drafts, fast service, and a kitchen that's still firing.

This isn't a generic sports bar with frozen appetizers and three TVs. The menu punches above its weight, think burnt ends and elevated pub fare made with ingredients that actually deserve attention. The vibe is relaxed without being forgettable, loud enough when the crowd is there, comfortable when it isn't.

The Local grew out of what Raleigh regulars loved about the old Backyard Bistro spot, and it has built something that stands on its own. It's the kind of place where residents become regulars and out-of-towners wish they lived closer.

What We Offer

Dine-in is the full experience, great sightlines to the screens, a rotating tap list, and a menu worth lingering over. But The Local also moves with your schedule: online ordering and takeout mean you can grab the same quality food without giving up a table.

Planning something bigger? The Local handles catering, tailgate packages, and private dining for groups who want more than a reserved table at a chain restaurant. Event hosting is available for watch parties, corporate gatherings, or anything that needs a real venue near the arena. Round it out with gift cards, a waitlist for busy nights, and on-site parking that makes the whole trip easier.

"Great spot and food. We went here day after Christmas, wasn't sure if they were open...they were and we were pleasantly surprised they were dead...we got fast food, service and enjoyed our burnt end nachos ($19), 12 wings ($18) and Mac and cheese ($8) As always lately was a little pricey but presentation was great and everything was delicious!! 😋 Great hangout spot for games, TV's are everywhere and loved all the NC State and Hurricanes art."

"My Husband and I have been residence now for two years and backyard bistro was one of our go to’s. I must say we were reluctant to go back after the change. Tonight we came prepared for the change and was pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere is much more open. Felt very open to new comers and upgrades call for all classes and groups of people. Previously the bar felt very unwelcoming although the staff was all lovely. It felt like it belonged to one team one family and old friends. I’m happy the prices weren’t drastically affected. The price is right the ambiance is pleasant the food is great if not better.! The chicken fingers are sooo juicy and tender and filling! The hush puppy seem to be the same but lighter not as heavy so delish! The famous brisket Mac is still great and presentation in the large round deep dish is perfect and here to stay. I’m sad there isn’t any sweet potato fries but I was pleased 😀"

"Great great great location to go before or after games for drinks and food! We were able to beat traffic and high uber prices by just walking in after Canes game, and grab food and drinks!"

"Overall Score: 7.1/10 – A modern and spacious sports bar with a clean, stylish interior, plenty of TVs, and quality food that mostly justifies the higher prices. Atmosphere and Service: 7.0/10 – The restaurant has a sleek and modern sports bar feel, with a spacious bar and open layout. Unlike typical sports bars, it lacks memorabilia, opting for a clean and polished design. The staff was friendly but a little too aggressive in clearing plates, repeatedly asking to remove dishes while there was still food on them, which became slightly annoying. The menu is on the smaller side and a bit pricey, but the quality largely makes up for it. Nachos: 8.5/10 – A standout dish. While expensive, the portion and quality made it well worth it. The nachos had unique and fresh toppings, and the brisket burnt ends were perfectly cooked. Each bite offered a different combination of flavors, keeping it exciting. The only downside was that there weren’t enough chips to match the amount of toppings left over. Smash Burger: 7.4/10 – A very good burger with excellent flavor. The patty was seasoned well and had that bold, classic taste that stood out. The bun was slightly stale, which took away from the overall texture. The fries, while decent, felt basic compared to the quality of the burger and nachos. BBQ Plate: 5.7/10 – An okay dish with a mix of highs and lows. The pulled pork had a slightly sour flavor that was unique and enjoyable. The fries and slaw were standard and didn’t stand out. The brisket was the biggest disappointment, as it had a large slab of fat that made it less enjoyable. Asking about the brisket cut next time might help get a better portion."

"Had lunch here today. Hardly busy, had to flag the server down for Soda refills. Didn't come around much in general. Wish more of the Hurricanes stuff stayed up! Bring back sweet potatoe fries please!"
